A TEAM SANTIAGO PROMISE - HIGHER TAXES
For the past 15 months all the
taxpayers of Millville have been hearing from Team Santiago is that good things
are coming. The question is what and when. So far the voters don’t have a clue
as to what the Commissioners are talking about because all their discussions
are in closed session in the back room. So much for transparency by your
government.
However, we do know one thing
for certain. There will be a hefty tax increase for 2019 voted for by all 5
Commissioners. So this year the citizens
of Millville will be saddled with tax increases from the County, City, and Board
of Education. Many of the homeowners in Millville will not be able to afford
this. How many boarded up houses will result?
Why are the Commissioners
increasing our taxes? In two words WASTEFUL
SPENDING. A few examples:
1.
A $2 million
dollar demolition done without getting a bid
2.
Costly and
unnecessary appointments made as paybacks for campaign contributions
3.
Pay raises to
employees that were not due for a raise or required by any labor agreements
4.
Increase in fees
to the SPCA
5.
Increase in the
number of city employees
6.
A depleted
surplus
Is the town safer? Does the
town look better? Are there more jobs? Is High Street thriving?
Could revenues have been
found elsewhere? Yes. Taxes should have been collected on the Wheaton Property.
The $2 million dollar Eagles building on Main St. demolition should have been
bid. Raises should not have been given when they were not due. Professional
services contracts should have been bid. Expenses should have been held in
check. The money owed to the city by the Levoy should have been collected.
When will the citizens of
Millville see the promised “good things that are coming” and can the citizens
afford to wait much longer.
