NO ANSWERS FROM TEAM SANTIAGO


At a recent commission meeting, a resident stood up and asked Team Santiago what was going on with the Wheaton Property. None of the commissioners answered. When the citizen asked again, Mayor Santiago stated that they do not have to answer questions and that an answer would be given during closing comments. During the closing comments, the question was not answered. So much for the promised transparency. Yes it is Team Santiago’s choice not to answer questions from the citizens of Millville but is it right? Citizens and taxpayers have the right to be informed as to what is going on in their city. The citizens are the ones who pay the bills and elected Team Santiago. Does the “team” understand who they work for?

Another citizen spoke at the podium and stated their name and that they lived in Millville. Mayor Santiago stated you must give your full address. Why? Is this another way for Team Santiago to intimidate those that speak up at a meeting? There is no need for any person to give their full address at a meeting.

From the beginning Team Santiago has not been forthcoming.. They have ignored their campaign promise of transparency. They have demonstrated both an arrogance and an ignorance that are unparalleled in Millville government. It seems the more that the citizens ask questions the more that Team Santiago wants to silence them. Team Santiago has forgotten that they were elected by and are responsible to the taxpayers and Millville voters. They have clearly demonstrated that they do not consider themselves accountable to the people who are paying the bills. And by the way the bills re going to get bigger and bigger as a result of this team’s irresponsible spending. Wait and see.

I thought when he ran he said he "wanted to give back." This is making him look like someone's tool. Where is the Daily Journal on this? A mayor who says he doesn't have to answer questions? Hey Daily Journal, that should be your headline. "We don't have to answer questions", says local mayor ........

Just remember all of Team Santiago have agreed to not answer the public's questions and to discourage the citizens of Millville to speak at the meetings. They have all voted to raise our taxes and have voted together on the out of town appointments.

Team Santiago Raises Your Taxes Again!!!

It is no surprise that Team Santiago raised Millville’s taxes again. Last year it was by 4.5% and this year it is 5%.   The county and the school board also raised their taxes so the taxpayer in Millville is looking at a 10% increase in their property taxes. This comes at a time when many individuals are out of work due to COVID-19 and there is no end in sight. This affects not only the taxpayers but every citizen in Millville as landlords will have to increase rents and businesses will have to charge more to meet expenses. So what did Team Santiago have to say for themselves when they voted for the tax increase –nothing. As usual they did not answer the public’s questions and did not explain their votes. WHO WILL FILL QUINN'S VACANT SEAT?

Now that Quinn has resigned for the second time, what happens to his empty seat? The commission has the option to appoint someone until the next election which is November 2022. Who do the new commissioners think that person should be? The last time Quinn resigned, Commissioner Sooy held fast to the belief that the person who came in 6th in the election should fill the seat. This time the 6th place person is Robert McQuade.  This is the only fair  scenario as the present commission has not even been sworn in yet. Hopefully Commissioner Sooy and the new commissioners will agree that Mr. McQuade should be appointed. Robert Mcquade put the time in to run for the office. The voters had enough faith in Mr. McQuade that he came in 6th with over 2000 votes.
